The January transfer window can be frustrating for clubs. Arsenal identified Arthur Melo of Juventus as a player they would like to sign to bolster their midfield. An initial bid of 6 months loan was not something Juventus were prepared to sanction. The 18 months loan deal presented by Juventus was accepted by Arsenal. The obligation to buy may be something Arsenal may not be willing to accept the obligation to buy, but the need is desperate, with the possibility of getting into the Champions League. This deal is further complicated by Juventus’ discussions with Aston Villa for the sale of Rodrigo Bentancur and their need to find a replacement.
In the last few days news on the transfer seems to have gone quiet, with the possibility that the deal may not now be possible according to David Ornstein
Arsenal’s hopes qualifying for the Champions League could be impacted by the shortage in midfield. Suspension or injury to Partey or Xhaka may mean we don’t qualify for the Champions League.
If this deal is not possible then the club need to move quickly onto other targets that will be easier to complete. One such option maybe Georginio Wijnaldum from PSG.
