One of Arsenal’s most promising youth players is on the verge of joining Chelsea. The player, who is 18 rejected Arsenal’s contract offer. The player has been with Arsenal since 2015, joined from Charlton
The player has yet to make a first team debut, was called into Arsenal’s matchday squad on several occasions last season, but didn’t make his way onto the pitch. With Arsenal back in Europe it was likely he would have featured for the club in the Europa League.
The player is reputed to have had his medical and he is expected to be confirmed as a Chelsea play tomorrow, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
This deal is perhaps an indication of where Chelsea’s new owners want to take the club. It’s hard to see how the player will get game time with the array of attacking talent that Chelsea currently have.
The exit of Omari Hutchinson will come as a blow to the club, but it should serve as a wake up call to the club that it’s youth players deserve opportunities to make a claim to be part of the first team squad.
Arsenal have many good young players. Some are on the verge of the first team while others such as Marcelo Flores, who is already a Mexican international, are not gettng opportunies in the squad.
Arsenal currently has 3 players from the academy in it’s first team squad. Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Eddie Nketiah are proof that there is a path to the first team.
