Arsenal went into this game needing a win to match Manchester City’s demolition of Liverpool earlier in the day. Any result other than a win would bring City to within two points.
Leeds made a better start to the match than the home team. For the first half hour of the game, Leeds were able to stfle Arsenal attack. The visitors were organised and restricted Arsenal’s main points of attack from the wings. Leeds created the first chance of the match, forcing Ramsdale into the first save of the match. Crysencio Summerville also tested the Arsenal keeper with a shot that went straight to Ramsdale, with Harrison also testing Ramsdale.
Arsenal improved, but still didn’t have a meaningful effort on target. On 35 minutes they were awarded a penalty. Leeds captain Luke Ayling fouled Gabriel Jesus. Arsenal captain Odegaard picked up the ball as though he was preparing to take the penalty. When the Leeds players protests had disappeared, he handed the ball to Jesus, who slotted the penalty into the net.
The penalty settled Arsenal and the began to control the game, but were not able to add to the goal. The match ended with the home side 1-0 ahead.
Arsenal went further ahead two minutes after the start of the second half. A low cross by Martinelli from the right side of Leeds box to the left was met by Ben White who hit the ball into the net. Arsenal continued to domante the match, creating more chances and in the 55th minute increased their lead. Gabriel passed to Trossard and Trossard’s touch lost his marker. Gabriel received a return pass from Trossard and hit it past Leeds keeper Meslier.
To their creadit Leeds continued to play, looking for a goal. The goal came after 76th minutes from Kristensen. A shot by the Leeds player fot a heavy deflection and went into the net. Arsenal restored their three goal lead in the 84th minute. Granit Xhaka headed a ball from Odegaard into the net.
The game ended 4-1 to Arsenal. They matched Mancheste City’s score against Liverpool earlier in the day and restored their lead to eight games.
